Communications Engineering & Installation

RVA provides turnkey engineering and installation services for air traffic control equipment and facilities. RVA engineers and technicians have completed projects at locations across the U.S. and in several other countries, including the installation of systems necessary for support of combat troops in the Middle East.

RVA installs antenna systems, meteorological systems and displays, communications consoles, UHF/VHF air/ground communications systems, digital recording systems, back-up power systems, ATIS – digital voice announcement systems, entry control systems, cordless signal light guns, and most other systems/services used by air traffic control facilities and air traffic controllers.

Additional installations have been completed for a variety of other applications such as specialized services for E-911 systems with digital voice recorders. RVA has successfully installed a complete digital recording system for the Huntsville, AL 911 Emergency Center. This process involved the procurement of the appropriate recording system with the installation of multiple software packages to increase the systems capabilities and completing the installation while maintaining present requirements of their old system and transitioning to the new.

Systems Maintenance

RVA is able to respond to a variety of customer Systems Maintenance requirements by maintaining a large data base of personnel with numerous years of FAA and DOD training and on-the-job experience maintaining NAVAIDS, Visual Aids, Radar and Air Traffic Control Communications Systems in the National Air Space System. Our data base of technicians and engineers includes personnel in nearly every state.

Presently RVA has maintenance contracts at Lake City, FL; St Augustine, FL; Cecil Field, Jacksonville, FL; Millington, TN; Cobb County, GA. and Provo, UT. These locations use RVA for a variety of maintenance requirements. Some customers choose to have their air to ground radio systems certified once a year while others participate in the quarterly preventive programs where factory settings are checked and maintained for proper operating functionality. RVA supports our maintenance locations with priority call out assistance when unexpected equipment malfunctions occur or emergency situations come about.

ATC Systems Maintenance Training

RVA has extensive experience in aviation and technical training. Most of our engineers and technicians are former FAA Airway Facilities employees and can provide the knowledge and experience needed to comply with FAA system maintenance directives and other FAA requirements. They have worked programs and projects from system development to the introduction of new equipment into the NAS through maintenance, sustainment, and removal from the NAS. RVA can also provide training that will provide the expertise and knowledge necessary to maintain the legacy equipment that remains in the field. Our personnel can serve as trainers as well as assisting with maintenance as needed. If you need a special course or seminar on a particular system, component, or technology, members of our staff of over 100 airway facilities technicians and engineers can accommodate you.

Surveillance Engineering:

RVA’s has over ten (10) years experience in most areas of surveillance engineering using highly skilled and experienced Radar engineers.

This experience includes:

  • Terminal Systems ASR-6 thru ASR-11
  • Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR)
  • Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE)
  • Precision Runway Monitor (PRM)
  • FP (Military) Radars
  • En Route Systems ARSR-1 thru ARSR-4
  • Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD)
  • Air Traffic Beacon Interrogator (ATCBI)
  • MODE-S Systems

RVA is currently supporting the FAA through a subcontract with BAE Systems on the FAA Surveillance Technical Assistance Contract (TAC). RVA provides services to support the implementation and integration of surveillance and weather systems. The RVA/BAE team provides technical program and project management to improve, modify, and relocate existing systems. RVA provides additional support for the deployment, testing and integration of new systems; and the preparation of design concepts and specifications for advanced (future) systems. We contribute and participate in Deployment and Procurement Readiness Reviews, serve as members of the Configuration Management and Integrated Logistics Support Management teams, participate in site surveys, installation planning, installation, and monitor contractor activities during turnkey field installations.

Power Systems

RVA employs engineers and technicians with many years of experience in installation and maintenance of Engine Generators (EG), Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) and Power Conditioning Systems (PCS). These systems vary in size from the small units for facilities such as a Localizer to the very large systems that are in service at TRACONs and ARTCCs. RVA also has many "on-call" engineers and technicians around the country through our extensive personnel data base.
